Travelling Tips: 5 tips for packing

Friday, August 15, 2014

Hi guys! Okay, so I know that summer is probably or already over for some of you, so I'm very sorry if this post is a little too late for you. For me, summer's just began since I've finished my piano exam, and I had online courses all of July. Finally time to relax for three more weeks before school! I'm so excited right now because tomorrow, I'm going on a trip that I've been looking forward to for months! It was literally the light at the end of the tunnel for me during those dark times called exams, summer school and piano. I'm going to be heading off to Europe, and travelling to Italy, Germany and Switzerland for about  a week and a half. I really love to travel, and through my experiences in the past with either packing for trips, I've gathered some tips to help! Packing right is super important, because you need to make sure you have everything you need to enjoy yourself while on vacation. I'll stop blabbering now, so let's get started with my tips for packing!

1. Plan your outfits
It's so easy to slack off on your style when on vacation, because you might be rushed, or not have much space, or think that it's fine since no one else you know will spot you anyways. Right? Wrong! I'm sure that most people love taking photos on vacation; do you really want to take tons of photos that you'll look back on wearing that ratty t-shirt? Comfort is definitely important, especially if you're doing lots of walking and outdoor activities, but it's equally important to look nice! It's pretty much impossible to throw in random clothes in your suitcase and hope to pull together lots of nice outfits when you're already there, so it's a good idea to decide on each outfit you're going to wear beforehand. I always pick out all my outfits first, and fold them together in my suitcase so I don't have to decide what to wear in the morning when I might be in a rush, or tired. This saves work, and also space in your luggage because you won't end up bring clothes you won't wear. It's also important to do some research first, and check the weather conditions where you're going. No surprises when travelling please!
2. Use Plastic bags
This is when all those shopping bags that I've kept lying around come in handy! If you just toss everything in your suitcase, they'll get messy and scattered by the time you've arrived. Then you'll have to dig through everything to find those meticulously planned outfits from the first tip. Ain't nobody got time for that on vacation! Put everything in plastic bags so they'll stay organized in your suitcase. It's also a good idea to bring an extra bag to put dirty clothes that you've already worn in, to keep clean clothes and worn ones separated.

 3. Choose your shoes wisely!
I guess this one isn't really a packing tip, but just a travelling tip in general. Pick the right shoes! If you're going to be walking a lot, make sure you have comfy shoes. You might think you can survive in those new espadrilles, but unless the shoes are really comfy, tried tested and true, your feet will not be happy! Make sure to bring a pair of shoes you know you can walk in for a long time. Bringing more than one pair is usually necessary too, just in case. I usually like to bring a pair of comfy, comfyish/cute, and some trusty flip flops. Also, bring band-aids, so those blisters can't bring you down!
4. Organize your Jewelry!
Bringing jewelry and accessories can be a hassle, because it's so easy to get them all tangled up in  bag, and then you have to dig around to find the other earring, or spend lots of time untangling your necklaces. I still like to wear jewelry though, so I got this nice zip up jewelry box that has separate compartments to keep everything separated and organized. This ones' from Coach, and it's been more useful than I could have imagined! You could also use small earring boxes to store your jewelry individually, or place pieces or cardboard in the boxes to make your own dividers.

5. Make a list, and check it
It's so easy to forget things when you pack, especially when you're in a rush. A few days before, you should make a list of the things you need, and go over it. If you think of some other things you might need, be sure to write it down on your list so you don't forget! It's also a good idea to get someone else to read the list too to help you check so you don't forget anything important.

So that's pretty much it for my list of tips for packing for a trip. It's super important to pack well, so you can relax and enjoy yourself and not have to stress out about forgetting something you need!
Since I'll be leaving tomorrow, this will be my last post before leaving. I don't think I"ll get to post very much while I'm away, so sorry if I'm not very active. Look forward to my travel posts when I'm back though! Do you have any tips for packing? Have you, or will you be going on vacation this summer? Please let me know in the comments, I'd love to know :)
