Beauty Product Review: The Face Shop - Clean Face Spot Corrector

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Hey everyone! Back with another beauty product review, it's been a while since I've done one of these. Finally gotten around to reviewing the last product in this line that I've tried as of yet, the spot corrector in the FaceShop's clean face line. Previously I reviewed the foaming cleanser here and the toner and lotion here .
The spot corrector is probably my favourite product from the line, so read on for my review!

Like the last products from this line, it's targeted towards oily and acne-prone skin, and like the toner, the key ingredient listed on the description is tea tree oil, which is a common ingredient used to disinfect and treat acne. You can apply this after toner, before moisturizer.
The description on the front is the same as the other products from the line.

Sorry the back is a little wrinkly, for some reason the second time I bought it it didn't have an English label on the back, so I had to use the empty tube. You're basically supposed to apply the spot corrector to any areas that are "concerned". I found that this wasn't the best product to use for new, large pimples or whiteheads, as it doesn't really make them go down much faster. I think it's most effective for areas with smaller breakouts or scars that you want to go away faster, or just areas with more redness and uneven tone that was caused by acne. It has a cooling sensation which feels quite nice, but doesn't feel irritating at all on your skin.

Some Active Ingredients:
Glycerin: Found naturally in the skin, it helps improve the skin's natural protection.
Lactic Acid: an AHA extracted from milk (hence the name Lactic) It exfoliates cells on the surface of the skin.
Niacinamide: A Cell-communicating ingredient (meaning it basically communicates with the cells on your skin and tells them what to do). It can improve the skin's elasticity, and enhance erasing skin discoloration.
Portalaca Oleracea Extract: A Plant extract, anti-flammatory properties.

So searching up the first few ingredients on the list, seems like they're pretty good, with useful properties that would be beneficial to helping the healing of scars and inflammation :)

I really did like the packaging for this product, the small tube was easy to squeeze and it was super easy to dispense the amount of product needed. Even when the tube was almost empty, it wasn't difficult to get it out, because the tube felt like it was full and I guess the air helped push the product out? I'm not too sure how it worked really but basically the design of the packaging gets a gold star for practicality!

It's a gel-like consistency which is somewhat thick but spreads easily on your skin, so a little goes a long way! This is actually my second tube of the product, and the first one lasted around 4 months.
Now as for my thoughts on the actual effects of the product (since if you're getting an acne product you're probably wondering if it actually works or not) I'd say that this product is actually quite effective! It didn't make scars go away overnight or anything, but I felt like my scars did look much lighter after a while of using this. It think it's most effective on red or irritated skin. If I had any patches that were kind of red or uneven, putting some of this on there cooled it down and it looked more calm the next morning! It also helped some pimples go down faster.
I thought that this was a pretty good product, that I would definitely repurchase, in fact I already did haha!
I got it from my local faceshop store for $8.50, and you can also find it from here  for $5.65 (darn it could have gotten a better deal haha)

  4. hi i just bought this corrector. Can I check with you, in your article, you stated to apply before moisturizer, does that mean after apply this spot corrector, I then apply my moisturizer?
    thank you!

    1. yes that is what I mentioned, I feel like it's more effective that way, but really it doesn't matter too much the order! sometimes I apply moisturizer first and then this, or I might not apply moisturizer on top at all.
